What are you waiting for?
New beginnings stir up many mixed emotions. If we allow nerves to distract our minds, we will miss out on many beautiful experiences!
We do not have a pause button on life. We do not have a rewind button either. All we have is the option to allow the present moment to play and move forward. My kids may be tired of hearing me say this, but it’s true and relevant in many situations. I often remind them to embrace the present moment. Don’t rush life. Push themselves to try something outside of their comfort zone.
My guidance to them is something I often have to remind myself to embrace as well. Have you ever delayed an adventure, hesitated on an activity, balked at trying a new food, or overwhelmed yourself with nerves when facing a new opportunity?
Too often we choose not to act because we are waiting to be ‘ready’. We are waiting for the time to be ‘right’. The problem with this mentality is that we will likely never feel as though we are truly ready! There will always be another excuse to wait.
New beginnings has been on my mind recently with the new school year. My daughter is beginning middle school this year, so we have had many conversations around those nerves that naturally come with anything new. There will be a new routine, new place, new people, new coaches.
We have talked about how all things we love and feel comfortable with were at one time new! I think back on the many wonderful memories I have, which almost all began with a day full of butterflies in my gut and a mix of emotions squeezing my lungs.
All experiences in life have a beginning and the hardest moment is almost always that first step.
I know there were times I chose the easier path and backed away from challenges simply because I didn’t have enough confidence. If we retreat out of fear, we will miss out on the joy of the memories. These are moments that could build our character, develop our life story, or provide us with invaluable knowledge!
Leave no regrets!
