I believe it is always worth the investment to hire a professional to evaluate your property to address any potential issues, install proper drainage, or properly seal your foundation.

There are a few tasks you can address immediately.

1. CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS

   Make sure your gutters are clear of leaves and debris to ensure they are functioning as designed.

2. ADD DOWNSPOUT EXTENSIONS

   Your downspouts should be draining 6 feet away from your home. If your downspouts terminate right at the foundation, it could seep into your basement.

3. PATCH ANY CRACKS OR GAPS IN YOUR FOUNDATION

   You don’t want any openings which could allow water into your home. These cracks are also easy entrances for unwanted critters!

4. REPLACE ANY BROKEN SIDING

   Water will get into the broken siding. Moisture behind the walls can cause rot and mold.

5. CHECK LANDSCAPING

   Make sure your landscaping allows water to run AWAY from your house. When gardens and yards slope toward your property, you are simply set up for water issues!

6. ADD A DEHUMIDIFIER

   Pick up a dehumidifier to run in the basement to help reduce the moisture in the air and help reduce any mold or mildew growth.
