Ideas to Update your Curb Appeal

Is your home’s exterior looking a bit tired? We all get caught up with our busy lives and sometimes put off some simple home maintenance chores that could make a big impact on our property’s appearance. If you are preparing to sell your home or if you are simply looking to freshen up your home’s exterior, here are four simple ideas to update your curb appeal!

1. Clean up your Garden and Lawn

After you accomplish the tedious task of pulling all those weeds, you will want to make sure there are clean lines defining the garden’s edge. Using edging products can give a quick and affordable facelift. There are affordable, no-dig edging products that install very quickly. Add a few bags of mulch and seasonal flowers to create a fresh look!

It is also a great idea to upkeep your lawn to keep it full and green! Spreading fertilizer at least twice a year and seeding patches regularly is advisable. The ideal time to nurture your grass is during the active growing seasons for your region (around 70 degree F).

2. Paint your Front Door

A fresh coat of paint on your front door will help give your home a pop of color and can be welcoming for your guests. If you are preparing to sell, recent research shows that Slate Blue and Black doors are the most popular right now (2022) and can help attract buyers and bring those strong offers!

3. Power wash your Siding and Pathways

We often don’t notice the gradual accumulation of dirt on our siding, porches, decks, walkways, and driveways. A good power wash provides instant gratification and is a worthwhile weekend project!

You can rent a power washer and stores such as Home Depot, or if you are a homeowner, it’s a good piece of equipment to own. Check out your local hardware store, or browse your options on sites like Amazon.

If you are not looking to take on the project yourself, reach out to a local handyman who will likely be able to knock it out in a few hours!

4. Front Door Decor

I am not suggesting you go overboard here as I am a believer that ‘less is more’ when it comes to your entryway. However, some simple decor to accent your front porch/step gives the home personality!

Consider a tall planter with seasonal flowers, a new door mat, or a welcome sign.

Showing off your pride of ownership does not need to be expensive! With a bit of your time and some light labor, you can make your curb appeal stand out and assure your property always looks it’s best!
